The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost

Weekday Liturgies The congregation is invited to attend Evening Prayer on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the Church; the midweek Eucharist is held on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. in Saint Mary’s Chapel.

The 8th annual Community Book Drive takes place from Now - September 12, culminating in the sorting of books at Fed Ex on Thursday, September 19, the United Way's Day of Caring. Saint John's will be collecting books for children ages toddler – 12 years. Collection boxes are in Trimble Hall on or near the Stage. Books that are donated may be gently used or new. Contact Deacon Sue or Heidi McCusker (deacon.stjohns@myactv.net or youthmin.stjohns@myactv.net) with any questions.  Your donations directly impact vulnerable children.  The Hagerstown Area Religious Council, United Way of Washington County, Hagerstown Rotary Club, and FedEx Ground are coordinating this effort.  Thank you for your continued support.

Secret Prayer Partners Results: Thank you!  Thank You!  THANK YOU to the 23 adults who committed themselves to praying daily for our 40 young people whose parents signed them up for Secret Prayer Partners last August. Statistically, if each adult only prayed one minute a day for the young people, over the course of the year, that would really add up.  Even though some adults prayed for more than one young person, these statistics only show one minute a day by the 23 adults.  One minute a day multiplied by 365 days is 8,395 minutes or 139.9 hours for 2019!  Almost 140 hours of prayer — that doesn’t count any additional minutes or anyone not listed on the Secret Prayer Partners roster!  Our church is blessed when we pray for each other. Now is the time to sign up for another year of caring for our young people.  Next year is Leap Year, so that will bless the “pray-ers” and the “pray-ees” with even one minute more of being held up before God!  If you will commit to this ministry, please fill out the form today (if you haven’t already done so) and give it to Karla Davis or mail it into the office. If you want to have your children or grandchildren prayed for (and you haven’t already submitted the form) please do that today also! God blesses us, I believe, when we show our concern for others by praying for them!  May God bless you richly this year!

Adult Forum: Mark your calendar for September 15th for the “Don’t Miss” kickoff of the rest of the story!  Immediately following the 8 O’clock service, the Adult Forum meets in Saint Mary’s Chapel to begin “The History of Christianity: from the Disciples to the Dawn of the Reformation.” Through video lectures by Professor Luke Timothy Johnson, a former Benedictine monk and current professor of the New Testament and Christian Origins at Emory University, we will be discussing the growth of the church from the original dozen to becoming a world power.  The story did not end with the Acts of the Apostles, it only began there. Be there!

4th Annual South Side Community Block Partyis on September 21st from Noon to 3 pm hosted by the Bester Community of Hope. St. John’s will have a tent near the Band Shell and will be distributing gently used and new clothing. Please empty your closets and dressers for those items to donate and bring them on to Trimble Hall, starting August 25th.We will have boxes ready to receive them.  All clothing is appreciated though the recipients may not have the means to have them dry cleaned (if necessary) or washed before wearing. Banana Boxes (Walmart Donation) are in Trimble Hall.  Boxes for Youth (Girls and Boys) and Adults are marked.  Deacon Sue deacon.stjohns@myactv.net has a signup sheet at the Antietam Entrance for folks to donate time sorting, setup, hospitality and tear down for the Block Party.

Saint John’s Day – Sunday, September 22:  May we come together, all together, all together in one place for worship, good fellowship and lunch.  We hope to make this another “feel good day,” rekindle friendships of those we haven’t seen for a while, and enjoy our time together again.  May we continue todo all such good works as He has prepared for us to do in our everyday lives. Mark your calendars now for this special day of celebration.  Invite your friends and family and please let us know you can stay for lunch:  There is a sign-up sheet on podium in Trimble Hall.  This is helpful (but not required) for planning purposes.
