The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost

Mayfest 2019: We are happy to announce our mystery train trip netted $10,500 to be divided equally among Children in Need, Community Free Clinic, and Holly Place. A hearty thank you to all who participated and supported this outreach in any way.

The 8th annual Community Book Drive takes place from Now - September 12, culminating in the sorting of books at Fed Ex on Thursday, September 19, the United Way's Day of Caring. Saint John's will be collecting books for children ages toddler – 12 years. Collection boxes are in Trimble Hall on or near the Stage. Books that are donated may be gently used or new. Contact Deacon Sue or Heidi McCusker (deacon.stjohns@myactv.net or youthmin.stjohns@myactv.net) with any questions.  Your donations directly impact vulnerable children.  The Hagerstown Area Religious Council, United Way of Washington County, Hagerstown Rotary Club, and FedEx Ground are coordinating this effort.  Thank you for your continued support.

Secret Prayer Partners: Shhhh…The Secret is Almost Over!!! The last Sunday in Summer (August 25) is the day to reveal the Secret Prayer Partners for the past year!  Be sure to attend the 10:15 service that day.  The cat will be out of the bag at the Coffee Hour in Trimble Hall after the service!  Also, use that day to sign up for the next round of Prayer Partners for the 2019-2020 school year!

Dinner for Eight: It’s time once again to begin thinking about Dinner for Eight. This is a fun way to get to know your fellow parishioners of Saint John’s by sharing a meal and conversation.   Normally this is a group of four couples who are put together and rotate hosting meals with the others bringing appetizers, sides, and dessert four times throughout the year. I say “normally” because we have had single people participate, so it is not necessary to have a spouse to be part of a dinner group.  If you would like to participate in Dinner for Eight in 2019-2020, now is the time to get your name in. Please contact the office by phone or e-mail. Groups will be assigned toward the end of August.  Those who have participated in the past have found it to be a fun time as we deepen our parish bonds of affection for each other.
