“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” - Ephesians 4:32

Meeting Norms

At St. John’s, we begin every meeting—whether a vestry gathering, committee session, or retreat—by establishing norms. This ensures that every participant is heard, respected, and engaged in a thoughtful, constructive conversation.

  • Speak one at a time, avoiding side conversations.
  • Express concerns when you feel uncomfortable or need clarity.
  • Assume good intentions while holding space for different perspectives.

Community Conversations

St. John’s values transparency and inclusion. When a topic affects the entire parish, we host Community Conversations—open forums for sharing information, gathering input, and making key decisions. Led by the wardens or vestry, these discussions provide a space for collective discernment. We aim to host at least two Community Conversations each year.

Vestry Leadership

Leadership at St. John’s is intentionally diverse, reflecting a blend of seasoned and new parishioners. The Vestry Nominating Committee seeks candidates who are committed to guiding the church’s mission and ministry.

Vestry Selection Process:

  • The Rector appoints a Nominating Committee three months before the annual meeting.
  • The committee submits nominations to the vestry one month before the meeting.
  • Additional nominations can be made by any two voting members up to two weeks before the election.
  • Vestry members are elected at the annual meeting, with absentee ballots available.

Financial Stewardship

St. John’s is committed to financial transparency, responsible stewardship, and long-term planning. Our three-year budget model helps anticipate major expenses and maintain fiscal balance.

Key Financial Practices:

  • Annual Internal Audit: A team of parishioners reviews finances, with oversight from the Finance Committee and Vestry.
  • Financial Reports: Updates are shared monthly in the parish newsletter and vestry meetings.
  • Endowment & Stewardship: St. John’s maintains designated funds for outreach, music, and historic preservation.
