The First Sunday in Lent
Adult Forum: Genesis 25-36, the Jacob Saga., today at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Mary’s Chapel. “Form Criticism” is not designed to set out what is historical, it is designed to tell a good story using certain literary conventions that people will recognize. Dr. Levine will take us on a fascinating walk through the Jacob Saga beginning with the story of Jacob and Esau. Dr. Levine’s ability to tie the ancient literature to contemporary issues with depth and good humor makes her presentation fascinating. Next week, “Folklore Analysis!”
Mercersburg Academy Chorale will present a concert today, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. as part of our Music at Saint John’s Series. Co-directors of the ensemble are Bryan Morgan and Jim Brinson (a parishioner of Saint John’s.) The program will include choral, clarinet and organ music by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Randall Thompson, Dan Locklair and Ola Gjeilo. A reception in Trimble Hall coordinated by Charlie and Katherine Foreman will follow the concert. The program is free and the public is invited to attend. Plan to come to the concert and invite a friend to attend with you.
The Reach Cold Weather Shelter: We are in our final week to sign up for the Reach Cold Weather Shelter, Feb 25th thru March 4th, and are in need of help in hospitality, laundry and intake. Please take time to stop by the Antietam Street entrance and sign up to provide a much needed service for those in our community who are in need. Only a small amount of your time can make a major difference in someones life.
Eagle Scout Project Donations: Matthew Mummert is currently working on his Eagle Scout rank and his project is making five cement benches for Saint John’s. Donations are requested to pay for supplies. A donation jar will be located in Trimble Hall. Thank you for supporting this project.
Save The Date(s)! We’re working on a new pictorial parish directory and we really, really want everyone to be included. More details to follow, but for now the important information is: Photographers from Lifetouch will be set up in Trimble Hall on April 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Signups will begin shortly and can be done online or in person following each service. Each family (or individual) sitting for a portrait will receive a FREE 8x10 in addition to their FREE directory. Additional portraits will be available for purchase at a discounted rate. We also NEED pics to fill out our “activity” pages; candid shots and posed shots are both welcome. Did you take pictures at Community Café? MayFest? Party on Prospect? Breakfast Bunch? Reach Shelter? DOKs or JDOKs? Clean-up and Mulch day? Youth Mission Trip? The Church Picnic? Could you/would you share them, please? The more the merrier! Contact Cathy Bushey email@example.com or Becca Burford firstname.lastname@example.org
