Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost ~ Proper 21

Weekday Liturgies The congregation is invited to attend Evening Prayer on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the Church; and the midweek Eucharist held on Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m. in Saint Mary’s Chapel.

Saxophone and piano concert on Friday, October 6 at 7 p.m. as part of the Music at Saint John’s Series presented by Shepherd University music faculty, Jeremy Koch and Yu-Hsuan Liao. The program will feature a variety of repertoire including Asian-inspired pieces. “Both saxophone and piano are western instruments, however we discovered several interesting compositions that were written in the last two decades by Asian composers. Contemporary western compositional techniques were used to give the musical idioms such as ancient Chinese music and folk songs that are so essentially eastern a new twist,” Dr. Liao said. Be sure to invite friends and neighbors to attend this very unique and innovative concert. The program is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the concert.

Are you concerned about falling?  Have you fallen and are interested in ways to prevent a fall? Come to Stepping On, a falls prevention program Mondays through 10/16 from 9 am-11 am in Trimble Hall. Please use the Walnut Street parking lot and proceed to the elevator entrance.  This 6 week program is aimed at teaching participants ways to reduce their risk of falling.  It is evidence based and designed for older adults.  It has been shown to reduce the risk of falls by 31%.  Stepping On focuses on how strength and balancing exercises, medication management, home safety, footwear, vision and mobility are important in preventing falls.  As a result of the program participants will increase overall strength, achieve better balance, gain more confidence and have a greater sense of independence as well as a reduced risk of falling.  To register call Kelly Llewellyn at 301-790-8378 to register.

Bester School Needs:  Bester School continues to need our help in providing underwear for its young children. The school greatly appreciates all that we've donated in the past and all that we can do now and in the future.  Sizes needed are 4, 6, and 8 for both boys and girls. Please contact Lou Lamb at church or call her at 301-437-5704.  Thank you.

The Reach Cold Weather Shelter: Saint John’s week this season will be February 25 through March 3. We hope you’ll prayerfully consider volunteering to help some good folks who are down on their luck. Missy McCray will be coordinating the volunteers this year. Additional information will be provided in the weeks to come.

The Service and Outreach Commission would like to sincerely "THANK YOU" for your contributions to the Bountiful Blessings Box in Trimble Hall.   Additional donations are needed.  Please contribute to our supply of toiletries, soap, shampoo, feminine hygiene products and toilet paper.   These items are made available to consumers at the monthly Community Cafe.   Thank you for your continued support of this outreach endeavor!
