One New Thing…: “One New Thing” is the theme for the Daughters-sponsored Quiet Day to be held Saturday March 5 from 9 am. To 2 pm. The day will be open to the entire parish, men and women, and any friends or interested people. Rev. Kim is planning a series of meditations, and there will be time for a choice of quiet meditation in the church or other activities and responses to the meditations.
Come and experience one new thing! We are planning the labyrinth in Trimble Hall and some other activities. There will be coffee and tea provided and a light Lenten lunch. Please call the parish office and let us know you are coming or email Karla Davis (firstname.lastname@example.org) so we have enough food for everyone. The day ends with Eucharist at 1:30 pm. Come and refresh your spirit! Come and energize your body and soul! There is no cost for this event.
Bester School Needs: If you can help with any of the following, please contact Louise (Lou) Lamb at email@example.com or 301-437-5704.
1. Jump ropes for single play and ropes for double dutch. Also balls: at least 3 small of each: footballs, basketballs, and kick balls and 3 medium size of each (or regular size) footballs, basketballs, and kick balls. (For pre-kindergarten - grade 5.)
2. Breakfast Mentors to sit with a child in his/her classroom while the child is having breakfast from 8:30 – 9:00 a.m. The mentor would have a friendly chat with the child to act as a Big Brother/Sister to impart self-confidence and a desire to learn. A mentor could also read to the child during this time.
3. Underwear for ages 4-8.
Search Committee update: The committee convened as a large group on Feb. 6 to share the results of small workgroup sessions. We finalized interview questions in preparation for beginning video interviews with potential candidates in April. The search committee is now ready to officially accept applications. Small workgroups will meet again prior to the next committee meeting at the end of February.
Adult Forum: You are invited! Sunday morning, following the 8 o’clock service in St. Mary’s Chapel, you are invited to join in adult examination of contemporary issues facing Christians in today’s world. Watch leading theologians, authors and church leaders wrestle with ideas and concepts with which we all struggle.
Be a part of the vigorous conversation! This week’s topic is “How do we Right the wrong?” Future topics include, February 21st, “What’s God got to do with Evil?” February 28th, “Why Hope?” This is not your everyday Bible study! Everyone is welcome.
Parish Directory: An updated parish directory is being compiled to include names, addresses, telephone numbers and emails. Please review your information and note any changes on the draft copies located throughout the church. If you wish your information to be excluded from the directory or your information is not in the draft directory, please contact Melonie by either email or telephone no later than February 22nd.
Reach Cold Weather Shelter: Winter has finally found us here in Washington County and there is a great need for the Reach cold weather shelter AND for volunteers during St. John‘s week February 28 through March 5.
Thanks to all of you who’ve already answered the call! There are still a variety of tasks, shifts and chores available; SPECIFICALLY on Saturday March 5 – currently a very lonely day at the Shelter with NO sign-ups.
In Trimble hall, on the table below the Service & Outreach bulletin board, is a brochure holder with task descriptions. You can also stop by the table at the Antietam Street entrance, between services and visit with Becca Burford and Teresa Taylor in person or via email: firstname.lastname@example.org (Becca) or phone 301-471-1947 (Becca) or (Teresa) 301-471-4512. OR – see Betty Markle following the 10:15 service.
You can also learn more by visiting the Reach website www.reachofwc.org.
AND, last but not least, – ALL volunteers must fill out the annual volunteer form ONLINE! Teresa & Becca will be happy to assist with this if needed!
Stewardship in Action: Thank you to the 130 parishioners and families, listed in Soundings, who stepped up to support the programs and people of Saint John’s. Pledge cards will continue to be available at the Antietam Street entrance.
