Weekday Liturgies The congregation is invited to attend Evening Prayer on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the Church; and the midweek Eucharist held on Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m. in Saint Mary’s Chapel.
Children’s Books Wanted – Annual Community Book Drive: Saint John’s is again asking for donations of new or gently used books for children between the ages of birth and eleven. The book drive ends today. Drop off books in boxes located in Trimble Hall. Providing books to children is a simple and effective way to promote language and literacy growth in preparing them for learning and reading. The Community Book Drive is a partnership of the Hagerstown Area Religious Council and other non-profit organizations for the benefit of local organizations, schools, and at-risk-children.
Are you concerned about falling? Have you fallen and are interested in ways to prevent a fall? Come to Stepping On, a falls prevention program Monday, 9/11-10/16 from 9 am-11 am in Trimble Hall. Please use the Walnut Street parking lot and proceed to the elevator entrance. This 6 week program is aimed at teaching participants ways to reduce their risk of falling. It is evidence based and designed for older adults. It has been shown to reduce the risk of falls by 31%. Stepping On focuses on how strength and balancing exercises, medication management, home safety, footwear, vision and mobility are important in preventing falls. As a result of the program participants will increase overall strength, achieve better balance, gain more confidence and have a greater sense of independence as well as a reduced risk of falling. Stewardship: Christian stewardship at Saint John’s is a way of life. The cards in the pews and throughout the church encompass more than money. Please use one to indicate where you are willing to offer your talents and time in gratitude of God's love.

Bester Block Party: On Saturday, September 23, the “Bester Block Party” hosted by the Bester Community of Hope will take place on the field next to Bester Elementary School. There will be fun activities, games, food, music and opportunities to learn about the local organizations and churches serving this community. Our goal is to let the residents know that we sincerely care for them and are here to support them in spirit and in other aspects of their daily lives, such as through donations of food, clothing, books, etc. and that there is a way up. Volunteers are needed during the general event from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. and also for a couple of hours before and after to set up and clean up. A sign-up sheet for volunteering is set up at the Antietam Street entrance. Please select the times and program activities that best fit your schedule. We realize that your time on a Saturday is important to you, so we appreciate any time you can provide.
Youth Talent Show: Calling all youth! St John’s will be hosting a talent show on Sunday, October 8th, following 10:15 service. If you can sing, act, dance, play an instrument, or whatever else comes to mind, and you wish to share your skill with the congregation, contact Margaret Clinch at firstname.lastname@example.org by Sunday, October 1st to volunteer.
B9, I21, N39, G43, O72 Bingo! Back by Popular Demand! The Service and Outreach Commission (SOC) will be hosting another round of Basket Bingo on Friday, October 20. Tickets will be $25 and include a lasagna dinner, dessert, and many games of bingo with opportunities for baskets valued $20 or more. All proceeds will benefit Service and Outreach Projects. Tickets are available at the Antietam Street entrance after each Sunday service. Inquiries my be directed to Cathy Bushey or Bruce Massey. Please mark your calendars!
