Children’s Books Wanted – Annual Community Book Drive: Saint John’s is again asking for donations of new or gently used books for children between the ages of birth and eleven. The book drive is from August 1 to September 17, 2017. Drop off books in boxes located in Trimble Hall. Providing books to children is a simple and effective way to promote language and literacy growth in preparing them for learning and reading. The Community Book Drive is a partnership of the Hagerstown Area Religious Council and other non-profit organizations for the benefit of local organizations, schools, and at-risk-children.
Leitersburg 38th Annual Peach Festival: The Leitersburg Ruritan will be sponsoring this festival held on Aug 12th and 13th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Ruritan Community Park. Come and enjoy great food, fresh peaches, pony rides, live music, art and crafts and more. Admission and parking are free.
Anyone interested in Dinner for Eight? If you are interested in joining this dinner club, please contact the office. If there is enough interest, we will start in September!
Nursery Volunteers Needed! – We are seeking adults and teens to help in the nursery with infants through 4 year-olds. If you are willing to help with this ministry once a month, please contact Margaret Clinch at email@example.com or 301-733-2560.
Stewardship: Christian stewardship at Saint John’s is a way of life. The cards in the pews and throughout the church encompass more than money. Please use one to indicate where you are willing to offer your talents and time in gratitude of God's love.
Secret Prayer Partners: Sunday August 27 is the day to reveal the Secret Prayer Partners for the past year! Be sure to attend the 10:15 service that day. The cat will be out of the bag at the Coffee Hour after the service! Also, be sure to sign up for the next round of Prayer Partners before August 27th!
Support Our Kids—Be a Prayer Partner: One of the joys of attending the 10:15 worship for many of us is seeing the growing number of children attending worship and taking part in the service. The Service and Outreach Commission would like to continue a quiet ministry that has been very successful over the past two years: our Secret Prayer Partners. We believe that an essential part of supporting all our children is to pray for them. This is a part of our baptismal vows and a way in which we strengthen our community life in Christ.
As an adult member of the congregation, will you agree to “adopt” a child or a family of children and pray for them every day? What better way can we support them than this? If you agree, we will give you the name of a child or family in the parish and ask for you to pray for each child every day. We would ask you NOT to give gifts but please do send the children cards on special holidays such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and their birthday. Please do not reveal yourself until the designated day which we will let you know in advance.
In the past, this has been a special ministry for the children and the participants. It’s also been a comfort for parents to know that their children are being prayed for by someone else in the Saint John’s family. Please join us in this endeavor. You will find the forms to sign up for prayer partners for the 2017-2018 school year both in Soundings and on the table by the Antietam Street entrance. Even if you were a partner last year, please sign up again so we know that you wish to continue your ministry.
Please return your completed form to the Parish Office or to Stephny Lietuvnikas or Karla Davis.
